SOLIDARITY WITH STRIKING MINERS OF SOUTH AFRICA

*34 striking workers killed by police - remember the dead, show solidarity with the living!*

At least 34 workers were shot dead, and many more injured, on August 16 as a massive police and army assault was launched to crush a strike by thousands of mine workers at platinum mine company Lonmin’s shafts in Marikana outside Rustenburg, in addition to at least six mine workers who were killed in clashes earlier on in the strike which began August 10.

The appalling scenes are reminiscent of the darkest days of apartheid – the Sharpeville massacre of 1960 and the murder of black school children in Soweto in June 1976. The apartheid of old is gone, but the economic apartheid continues to wage war against the poor. Under ANC rule the rich continue to get richer while workers like the murdered miners have to continue to struggle for decent housing, health and education.

Please show your solidarity with the striking miners, and the families of the deceased. Join us in picketing the South African embassy on:

Thursday 23rd of August at  2 pm

South African Embassy address: Tiergartenstr. 18, 10785 Berlin
